About Me Hello, well my name is Katie, I'm 24, I'm an embrodierer, i know, it sounds dull, but its really not. I love all things textile and tree related and am a self professed geek and proud of it!
Music I like quite a bizarre range of music, i guess you could say my taste was eccletic! From Modest Mouse to Damh the Bard, Metallica to Joni Mitchell, Smashing Pumpkins to Kate Rusby, folk to jazz, and rock to blues. As long as it has emotion it does it for me!
Movies The Railway Children never fails to make me cry, but Drop Dead Fred must be one of the best movies ever, just good for fun. If I want something serious I read a book, films are for fun!
TV Any trash I can watch while I'm working without getting too distracted, esp Jeremy Kyle in the mornings! Cartoons are always good as I never seem to have grown up, please can they put the Gummie Bears back on weekend morning telly!!
Books Genrally I love classics, I grew up reading Jane Austen and Charles Dickens, and roamed around to George Elliot, Oscar Wilde, PG Wodehouse, Sylvia Plath, Evelyn Waugh and much more, but will read anything left infront of me, except Harry Potter, after bok 7 I was traumatised and need a break! (How sad no more new HP books ever!!) Oh, and i HAVE to re-read Lord of the Rings every year, its an addiction!
Likes Coffee, trees, books, my camera, my friends, walking my dog, Tea (made in a tea pot), sewing, junk shops and markets, camping in my flowery tent, pre-raphalite art, raspberries, sketching people, dancing when no one else is, the rain, making random things, singing (too loudly and out of tune), pretty fabrics, museums and much more!
Dislikes Baked beans, moths, having cold feet, being quiet in museums, pre-concieved ideas and Moby Dick, the only book I ever gave up reading!
Hobbies Sewing, reading, making things, walking in the rain, scuba diving, trying to work freelance and keeping sane-ish!
Vices Being too stubborn for my own good. My coffee addiction. Not knowing my own limits. Being over emotional.
Virtues My stubborness works in my favour too, sometimes, and i'd like to think my loyalty and good listening qualities are my virtues. And smoking, such a vice but one i cant do without full-time
Heroes My grandmothers and my surrogate grandmother, truly inspirational women with passion, courage and heart. And a wonderful girl called Amanda I was priviledged to meet, courage in children teaches you so much!

Help, I cant type any more!!!

Sunday, November 11, 2007, 10:22 AM GMT [General]

I'm frantically trying to make myself finish typing my dissertation but I keep getting distracted! Well, maybe distracted isn't the right work, bored! I'm so bored and I've lost all momentum for doing this. I've spent the last two days infront of my computer doing bugger all on it and getting more and more frustrated at myself for not actually achieving anything in a day.

I even got up at 6.30 this morning to make a cup of tea and sit down, but it's now 10.15 and i've done nothing but open the files. I NEED to get working on it but am having issues finding the interest, despite the looming deadline. You know what it's like, the final hurdle, i'm tired and i've had enough but it needs to be done. Maybe doing this will be enough to make my get my bum in gear - I hope so.

I also cant find the right sort of music to listen to while typing. Something which helps me keep going without distracting me or making me type song lyrics, as that makes my sentances even less logical! Argh! can't it all just be done and over with.

I'm headed for a father daughter bonding afternoon as well. Does sitting in a darkened room watching a film count as bonding time? So that means I really need to type now so I can focus on the film and not be thinking of 17th century stumpwork frames and caskets. Knowing my luck they'll be embroidery in the film and it'll set my mind off!

Oh my god, I sound like a mardy mary this morning, I do apologise. I think I need a cup of tea, my cat to stop snoring and then I can sit and type - I will conquer this everest before I smash up the computer!

    I Shall Conquer My Fear!

Friday, October 26, 2007, 09:10 PM GMT [General]

My largest fear, for far too long, has been knitting. (Well, almost my largest fear!) I can sew, i can embroider, i can quilt, i can pattern cut and i can crochet, but i have never been able to master knitting, despite many hours of practice and help from others.

Now, however, i am determined! Before i turn 25 in december i am determined to master this new skill! and make my grandmothers proud! So you, lucky people, get to see the full beauty of my knitting attmepts! Feel free to laugh but mock you not! Tho' any advice will be greatly appreciated!

It looks harmless when seen like that! But i know it is a ball of pure stress and evil waiting to be knitted into a hap-hazard holey mess, but i shall conquer!

    Yay, my first blog!

Thursday, October 25, 2007, 04:35 PM GMT [General]

So here it is, my very first bog! I'm off work, sick and snuffly with a horrible cold and after haveing spent all day laying in bed with my dog at my feet up up (sort of) and attemptomg to do some work, which obviously isn't working as I'm on here, setting this up, which is much more fun!

This is all new to me, but if it means I can meet new like minded people, I think its great, especially as I'm about to start working as a freelance artist and will be stuck with just myself, my dog and my cat to talk to during work days, and they never give me the answer I'm looking for!

Well, thats it for now, I'm going to crawl onto the sofa with a blanket and a cup of tea to watch midsummer murders in safety!

Garlic oil? I'll have to try that. it's gone away for the most part, but it's still hanging out. gross! Actually, I did not get to carve my pumpkin...I donated it to a friend for his party because he spent all week looking for pumpkins and couldn't find one...I think he ended up carving Pi into it. Anyway, how are you doing?
